A Follow-Up
I was inundated this week with emails, tweets, facebook messages, and texts responding to my post on casual sex. You all have so much to say and it's fascinating. It's fascinating and beautiful and hilarious and inspiring and you make me so glad that I write.
Thank you.
Personally, I don't know if I could do non-monogamy long-term, but what gives me anxiety about it isn't so different from what gives me anxiety about monogamy: expectations, commitment, pressure to perform. My ideal love, in all the forms I hope to share it, is one that isn't based in unreal promises at all. I like the idea of family based in community, happiness centered in self, and a love that accepts the unfolding, impenetrable arc of uncertainty.
Let's work on that.
Thank you.
